CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Emory & Henry University Volleyball Team (3-21) fell on the road in non-conference action to the University of Charleston (W.Va.) Saturday evening. The Golden Eagles took the win by set scores of 25-19, 25-14, 22-25 and 25-12.

How It Happened
- The Wasps took an early 5-1 lead, but the Golden Eagles rallied for seven straight points to leapfrog ahead 8-5. E&H drew level at 9-9, but Charleston put together a 10-1 run to establish a 19-10 advantage. UC held the Wasps at bay, leading 23-13 heading down the stretch. Emory & Henry battled back to win six of the next seven to slice the deficit to five, but Charleston sealed the set with a kill to win the opener 25-19.
- The Golden Eagles ran out to a 13-8 lead midway through the second frame, and pushed their margin out to double digits at 20-9 thanks to a 7-1 run. The Wasps brought themselves back within eight, but that was as close as they would get, as the home team took the stanza by a 25-14 scoreline.
- The Wasps took the initiative in the third set as they were first to 15 points and held a six-point lead thanks in part to three service aces from sophomore outside hitter Tori Boling (Tega Cay, S.C.) and a trio of kills by junior outside hitter Grace Duey (Tega Cay, S.C.). The Golden Eagles clawed back into the set and trailed by just a pair at 20-18, but E&H had an answer for every Charleston run in the third frame. Senior outside hitter Julissa Hopgood (Lutz, Fla.) sealed the set with a kill and the Wasps took the third frame by a 25-22 score.
- Charleston responded to begin the fourth set as the Golden Eagles took a 14-6 lead early. UC continued to score, running their advantage out to 20-9. The home team finished with a 5-3 run to clinch the set and the match 25-12.
Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Boling tallied eight kills, 13 digs, four service aces, two assists and a block to pace the Wasps while Duey added eight kills, two digs and a block. Senior middle Gracyn Miller (Lilburn, Ga.) went for six kills, four blocks, two digs and an assist. Junior middle Haley Harnichar (Sevierville, Tenn.) posted eight kills and a pair of blocks for E&H.
- Sophomore setter Zoie Pace (Collinsville, Va.) had a double double with 12 assists, 15 digs and a kill while senior setter Logan Newberry (Glade Spring, Va.) collected a double double of her own with 10 assists and 12 digs.
Charleston Individual Leaders
- Sophia Knowles registered a match-high 15 kills, three digs and five blocks. Kalista Milne had 14 kills, two digs, three blocks and an assist in the win.
- Abby Avila recorded a double double with 29 assists, 14 digs, two blocks, one service ace and a kill.
