How It Happened
- The Wasps started the match well as they took an early 7-4 advantage thanks in part to a pair of kills from senior middle Gracyn Miller (Lilburn, Ga.). The Pioneers rallied through the middle part of the set as they went on a 15-5 run to jump ahead and establish the 19-12 lead. TU's lead reached as many as nine on their way to the 25-18 win in the opening frame.
- The early stages of the second stanza were back-and-forth and the score was all level at 5-5. A quick 8-2 run from the visitors saw them establish some breathing room at 13-7. Another big run, this of the 10-3 variety, gave the Pioneers the commanding lead as they cruised to an easy 25-12 win in the frame.
- Emory & Henry held another slim 5-4 margin to begin the third, but once more Tusculum responded with eight of the following 10 points. E&H slowly worked their way back into the set and pulled within just one at 15-14 at the midpoint. That was as close as the Wasps would get, as the Pioneers finished with a flourish by taking 10 of the next 12 opportunities to seal the win 25-16.
