Emory & Henry Volleyball Falls To Mars Hill, 3-0, Friday Evening

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry University Volleyball Team (3-20, 0-14 SAC) dropped a South Atlantic Conference match to Mars Hill University (8-11, 5-9 SAC) inside the John Rutledge King Center Friday evening. The visiting Lions took the win by scores of 25-11, 25-17 and 28-26.

How It Happened
- The Lions took the lead early in the first set as they established a 14-8 advantage. MHU won nine of the following 10 points to increase their margin out to 14 at 23-9. Mars Hill closed out the opening set by a 25-11 scoreline.
- The two teams were level at 4-4 to begin the second, but the Lions rattled off eight of the next nine points to take a 12-5 lead. Mars Hill held a 20-13 in the middle of the frame, but the Wasps answered with four straight to trim the deficit to just three at 20-17. The Lions sealed the second set with five straight points for the 25-17 win.
- The third set was back-and-forth throughout and the squads stood deadlocked at 13-13. E&H ran out to its largest lead of the evening with three consecutive points, but Mars Hill battled back to pull within one. Neither team could create separation heading down the stretch of the stanza and the score was tied on multiple occasions. The Wasps reached set point at 24-22 until back-to-back point wins by the Lions knotted the score at 24-24. Four points later, a winner could not be determined and the tally was tied once more at 26-26. MHU finally closed out the pesky Wasps with two kills to take the set and the match 28-26.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Sophomore outside hitter Tori Boling (Tega Cay, S.C.) led the Wasps offensively with a double-double of 12 kills, 13 digs, one assist and a block. Senior middle Gracyn Miller (Lilburn, Ga.) went for six kills, four blocks and a dig while junior middle Haley Harnichar (Sevierville, Tenn.) added five kills and four blocks.
- Freshman setter Sydni Davis (Cornelius, N.C.) recorded a team-high 16 assists and eight digs. Sophomore setter Zoie Pace (Collinsville, Va.) collected 12 assists and eight digs.

Mars Hill Individual Leaders
- Ioana Poenaru went for 11 kills, 10 digs, four service aces, two assists and a block. Skylar Ogden posted 11 kills, six digs and three blocks while Angel Jimenez registered nine kills, 13 digs, one block, one service ace and an assist.
- Alyssa Kornegay dished out a match-high 25 assists while adding 11 digs and a kill.
