EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry University Volleyball Team (3-16, 0-10 SAC) came up short against No. 20 nationally-ranked Wingate University (18-1, 11-0 SAC) Friday evening. The Bulldogs took the win by set scores of 25-16, 25-14 and 25-18. The Wasps honored the graduating class of Gracyn Miller (Lilburn, Ga.), Julissa Hopgood (Lutz, Fla.), Logan Newberry (Glade Spring, Va.), Grace Duey (Tega Cay, S.C.) and Cyrianna Lee (Tampa, Fla.) prior to the match.

How It Happened
- The two squads battled through the beginning of the first set and the Wasps held on to a narrow 8-7 advantage. The visiting Bulldogs rallied to take 11 of the following 14 points to establish an 18-11 lead. Wingate closed out the frame with a kill by Gabby Saye for the 25-16 set win.
- Wingate ran out to an early 7-2 lead in the second stanza, but the Wasps battled back to pull within three at 13-10. A 7-1 Bulldog run saw Wingate push its advantage back out to nine at 20-11. The visitors closed out the second with a service ace to take a two set to none lead.
- The third set was evenly matched and the score stood deadlocked at 10-10. Another quick seven-point spurt by Wingate saw them create some breathing room through the middle stages of the frame. The teams alternated points down the stretch and E&H brought itself back within striking distance at 22-18. The nationally-ranked Bulldogs sealed the match with three straight points to take the victory 25-18.
Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Duey paced the Wasps with a team-high six kills, five digs and a block while Miller added five kills, one dig and a block. Junior middle Haley Harnichar (Sevierville, Tenn.) finished with three kills and a pair of blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Tori Boling (Tega Cay, S.C.) recorded three kills, six digs and a service ace.
- Newberry posted a team-high 15 assists, one dig and a kill while freshman libero Gracy Lasig (Knoxville, Tenn.) went for a team-high seven digs and a pair of helpers.
Wingate Individual Leaders
- Saye registered a match-high 13 kills, two digs and three blocks for the Bulldogs while Rylee Tanner contributed 11 kills, nine digs and a service ace.
- Maya Van Heyst collected a match-high 38 assists, eight digs, three kills and a service ace. Maddie Hoffman added 11 digs, three assists and a service ace in the win.
