How It Happened
- It was a tight match in the first set as the teams traded blows in the early stages and the score stood deadlocked at 8-8. The Eagles created some space through the middle of the frame as they established a 16-10 advantage. E&H managed to close the gap to four at 22-18 late in the set, but the Eagles closed things out to take the early lead with a 25-19 set win.
- The Wasps took four of the first five points in the second stanza until the Eagles went on a 10-3 rally to put themselves in front 11-7. E&H responded to pull back within just one at 14-13, but C-N had an answer and pushed their lead back out to four at 20-16. Emory & Henry would not go down without a fight and the deficit was just one at 21-20 heading into the deciding points. The Eagles posted four consecutive points to take the win and give themselves a commanding two-set advantage.
- The Eagles controlled things throughout the entirety of the third set, posting a hitting percentage of .375. Carson-Newman saw their lead reach 15 on multiple occasions on their way to a dominant 25-10 victory in the final frame to complete the sweep.
Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Junior outside hitter Grace Duey (Tega Cay, S.C.) led the Wasps with seven kills, two digs and a pair of blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Tori Boling (Tega Cay, S.C.) went for six kills, 11 digs and a pair of assists while senior middle Gracyn Miller (Lilburn, Ga.) had five kills, three blocks and two digs. Senior outside hitter Julissa Hopgood (Lutz, Fla.) finished with four kills.
- Sophomore setter Zoie Pace (Collinsville, Va.) collected a team-high 14 assists, seven digs, two service aces and a block. Freshman Sydni Davis (Cornelius, N.C.) registered four assists, three digs, one service ace and a kill.
Carson-Newman Individual Leaders
- Addie Smith paced the Eagles with 10 kills, five digs, two blocks and a service ace to go along with Emerson Ahsmus's nine kills, 10 digs and a block. Annie Dziczkowski recorded eight kills and two digs while Maddie Hurst added eight kills, three blocks and a dig.
- Blair Cherry had a match-high 35 assists, eight digs, three blocks, two kills and a service ace for the Eagles.
