Newberry Volleyball Downs Emory & Henry, 3-0, Friday Evening

NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Emory & Henry Volleyball Team (2-9, 0-4 SAC) fell in straight sets to Newberry College (6-3, 1-2 SAC) on the road in South Atlantic Conference action Friday evening. The Wolves earned the win by scores of 25-12, 26-24 and 25-10.

How It Happened
- The Wasps jumped out to a quick 4-0, until the Wolves responded with nine consecutive points to leapfrog ahead 9-4. E&H closed the gap to three, but Newberry tallied six straight to push their advantage out to 15-6. The home team controlled the set through the middle and latter stages, taking the opening frame by a 25-12 scoreline.
- E&H again took an early lead in the opening part of the second stanza as they established an 11-7 advantage. Newberry would take six of the next seven to jump ahead by one, but the Wasps battled back and the score was all square at 15-15 at the midpoint. The teams went back-and-forth through the middle of the frame and remained deadlocked at 21-21 heading down the stretch. Emory & Henry reached set point at 24-23, but the Wolves reeled off three straight to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.
- Newberry led from the start in the third frame as they pushed their lead out to 17-5 through the middle of the set. The Wolves never looked back, taking the set and the match 25-10. 

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Sophomore outside hitter Tori Boling (Tega Cay, S.C.) led the Wasps with a career-high four service aces, three kills, four digs and a block. Sophomore outside hitter Mollee Cutshall (Blountville, Tenn.) posted four kills, three digs, two blocks and a pair of assists to go along with sophomore outside hitter Taylor Kelly's (Hickory, N.C.) five kills and two digs. Senior middle Gracyn Miller (Lilburn, Ga.) added three kills, three digs and a pair of blocks.
- Sophomore setter Zoie Pace (Collinsville, Va.) had a team-high 12 assists and seven digs while freshman libero Gracy Lasig (Knoxville, Tenn.) went for a team-high 12 digs and three helpers.

Newberry Individual Leaders
- Samantha Shaffer paced the Wolves with a match-high 10 kills, three blocks and a pair of digs. Anna Schneider finished with seven kills, 11 digs and three service aces. Madison Watson registered seven kills and a pair of blocks in the win.
- Annie Dill had a double-double with a match-high 19 assists, 11 digs, one kill and a service ace. Hailey Clayworth collected 13 digs, four assists and three service aces.

Up Next
- Emory & Henry continues its road trip on Saturday, September 27 when the Wasps travel to Winston-Salem, N.C. for a tri-match against Guilford College and Carolina University. First serve for game one is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. from Williams Gymnasium in the Pope Activities Center.
