Emory & Henry Volleyball Sweeps Virginia Union In Non-Conference Action

RICHMOND, Va. – The Emory & Henry University Volleyball Team (2-3) got back in the win column Tuesday evening as the Wasps picked up a big non-conference road sweep of previously unbeaten Virginia Union University (2-1). E&H earned the victory by scores of 25-22, 25-15 and 25-21.

How It Happened
- The Panthers took an early lead in the opening set, as they ran the score out to 6-2. The score stood at 9-6 VUU when the Wasps went on a 10-1 run, capped off with a kill from sophomore outside hitter Tori Boling (Tega Cay, S.C.) to put E&H in the lead at 16-10. The visitors from Emory continued to increase their lead out to as many at nine, but the Panthers rallied late to pull back within just one point at 23-22. Back-to-back kills by junior outside hitter Grace Duey (Tega Cay, S.C.) and junior middle Haley Harnichar (Sevierville, Tenn.) put a stop to the VUU rally and gave Emory & Henry the opening-set win 25-22.
- The Wasps took control of the second set, utilizing a 7-1 run to give themselves a 16-7 lead in the frame. The margin held through the middle of the set and E&H held a 21-15 advantage heading down the stretch. The Wasps reeled off four consecutive points via more kills from Boling and Harnichar to clinch the stanza and take a commanding two-set lead.
- VUU was the aggressor to begin the third set as they took an early 11-7 lead. Four straight points quickly brought the Wasps back level and the teams traded wins as the score stood tied at 14-14. E&H would go on to win six of the following seven points to jump in front 20-15. Emory & Henry reached match point at 24-21 and Duey sealed the deal with a match-ending kill to complete the sweep. 

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Senior middle Gracyn Miller (Lilburn, Ga.) led all players with a match-high nine kills while adding seven digs and three service aces. Boling finished with eight kills, five digs and a service ace in addition to Duey's eight kills and a dig. Freshman middle Alyssa Meier (Clinton, Tenn.) posted eight kills and three digs in the win.
- Sophomore setter Zoie Pace (Collinsville, Va.) had a team-high 12 assists, eight digs and a pair of service aces. Freshman setter Sydni Davis (Cornelius, N.C.) recorded 11 assists, four digs and two service aces while freshman libero Gracy Lasig (Knoxville, Tenn.) chipped in with seven digs, three service aces and an assist.

Virginia Union Individual Leaders
- Ashlee Franklin paced the Panthers with seven kills, eight assists, three blocks and a service ace while Madison Hill went for six kills, four blocks, two digs and an assist.
- Zinnia Picket had 12 assists, six digs and a service ace. Aireanna Johnson registered six kills, five digs , an assist and a service ace.

- Emory & Henry continues non-conference play this weekend when they travel to Cleveland, Tennessee for a tri-match against Lee University and Thomas More University. First serve of match one is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. from Paul Dana Walker Arena.
