NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Emory & Henry University Women's Soccer Team (7-4-3, 1-4-3 SAC) took a lead just before the halftime break, but could not hold on as the Wasps had to settle for a South Atlantic Conference draw against Newberry College (5-4-3, 1-4-2 SAC) Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened
- Newberry was the aggressor to begin the match, firing the first three shots of the contest over the opening seven minutes, but the score remained level. E&H settled into the match and took control through the middle of the opening half as the Wasps responded with the following four attempts. Emory & Henry broke through in the dying seconds of the frame when junior forward/midfielder Charlotte Stavis (Charlotte, N.C.) tallied her 12th goal of the season unassisted to give the Wasps a 1-0 advantage heading into the locker room.
- Both squads were kept off of the scoreboard through the first 25 minutes of the second stanza, despite scoring opportunities for both. The Wolves equalized the match in the 71st minute on an unassisted score off the foot of Molly Quartly to tie things up at 1-1. Neither team could find the game-winning goal and the squads had to settle for a share of the spoils.
Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Stavis paced the Wasps with a match-high five shots, three of which were on target, and the lone goal of the contest for the visitors. Five other Wasps finished with one shot each.
- Junior goalkeeper Sophia Wagner (Front Royal, Va.) recorded five saves in net for E&H.
Newberry Individual Leaders
- Mikaela Warburton registered a team-high three attempts, while three other Wolves had a pair of shots. Quartly scored on her lone shot of the afternoon.
- Madison Gutierrez made five saves for Newberry to earn the draw.

- The Wasps are back at home inside the friendly confines of the Food City Sports Complex on Wednesday, October 29 to take on the Bruins of Carolina University. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. from Emory, Virginia.
