Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Lacrosse Tops Emory & Henry, 20-2, Wednesday In SAC Competition

HICKORY, N.C. – The Emory & Henry University Women's Lacrosse Team (1-5, 0-2 SAC) dropped a midweek South Atlantic Conference game to Lenoir-Rhyne University (1-3, 1-0 SAC) Wednesday afternoon. The Bears earned the win by a 20-2 final score.

How It Happened
- The Bears scored early and often to begin the contest, putting up 11 unanswered goals in the first period of action. LR put up the first score of the second quarter, but Emory & Henry finally broke up the run with 3:39 remaining in the half. Graduate student Mary Martinez (Estado de Mexico, MEXICO) buried a shot unassisted that found the back of the net to make it 12-1 at the halftime break.
- Lenoir-Rhyne would go on to score five goals in the third period and the first two of the fourth to run their advantage out to 19-1. The Wasps got back on the scoreboard with 70 ticks left when Martinez found senior midfielder Justyce Jones (Jacksonville, N.C.) who beat the goalie. The Bears would add one more score just before the buzzer to send the score to its final at 20-2.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Martinez finished with a goal and an assist while adding two ground balls and causing one turnover. Jones had a goal, a team-high six ground balls, two draw controls and a team-high three caused turnovers. Junior defender Megan D'Amore (Mooresville, N.C.) went for a team-high four draw controls and a caused turnover.
- Freshman Ella James (Roanoke, Va.) made five saves in net while fellow freshman Madison Weaver (Forest, Va.) had four stops of her own. 

Lenoir-Rhyne Individual Leaders
- Addie Hale paced the Bears with three goals and a trio of assists while adding a ground ball and a caused turnover. Hannah Thomas recorded three goals, one assist, one ground ball and a caused turnover.
- Sally Friesen, Mckenzie Walsh and Harlow Coker combined for four saves in goal for LR in the win.

- The Wasps are back at home on Wednesday, March 11 when they host rival Ferrum College. First draw is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. from the Food City Sports Complex.
