Emory & Henry Volleyball Blanks Brevard, 3-0, Friday On The Road

BREVARD, N.C. – The Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team (1-5, 0-0 ODAC) picked up its first win of the season on Friday evening with a convincing sweep, 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-12), over Brevard College (0-7, 0-0 USA South). The match was the first of three at the Brevard Invitational for the Wasps this weekend.

How It Happened
- E&H jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the first set thanks in part to back-to-back aces by senior libero Huntre Baxter (Blountville, Tenn.). The Tornados closed the gap to 12-10 before the Wasps went on an 8-1 run to take control and win the set 25-17.
- In the second frame, Emory & Henry opened up a 5-0 lead and pushed its advantage to 10-2. The Wasps held off a four-point run by the Tornados that cut the deficit down to 20-17 and scored five of the next eight points to take a 2-0 lead in the match, 25-20.
-  Emory &Henry continued to roll in the third as it started things off with an 8-1 run. Up by a 13-9 score, the Wasps sealed the victory with an 11-2 run, claiming the match with the 25-12 set victory.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Senior outside hitter Rebecca Morehouse (Kingsport, Tenn.) led the Wasps' attack with eight kills and added six digs on the night.
- Senior setter Sam McCauley (Glade Spring, Va.) dished out 19 assists, and added eight digs, six kills and two blocks to her tally.
- Freshman outside hitter Chelsie Crussell (Kingsport, Tenn.) had four kills, three aces and four digs while Baxter tacked on a team-high 13 digs. Senior defensive specialist Amethyst Crawford (Afton, Tenn.) posted a match-high five service aces.

Brevard Individual Leaders
- Sydney Fox had seven kills and 10 digs to lead the Tornados while Jordan Lloyd added six kills and seven digs.
- Hannah Gordon put up a double-double with 13 assists and 13 digs.

Up Next
- Emory & Henry will continue play in the Brevard Invitational on Saturday with matches against Greensboro College (11:00 a.m.) and Meredith College (1:00 p.m.).
- Saturday's action will take place at the Xcel Sportsplex in Hendersonville, North Carolina.
