Emory & Henry Women’s Indoor Track & Field Sees Records Fall At Tryon Last Chance Meet

MILL SPRING, N.C. – The Emory & Henry University Track & Field Teams wrapped up the Indoor regular season Friday, competing in the Tryon Last Chance Meet. The men's team saw one record fall during competition, while the women's team set four new program benchmarks.

Top Men's Performances

Track
- Junior Joshua Black (Woodbridge, Va.) was fourth in the 60 meter hurdles, running a time of 8.80.
- Black recorded an eight-place finish in the 200 meters with a 22.88, while freshman Vada Howard (Lynchburg, Va.) was 11th in 23.10 and junior Barlowe Branch, III (Petersburg, Va.) finished 14th with his time of 23.35.
- Branch placed fourth in the 400 meters, putting down a time of 50.83. Sophomore Hayden Pugh (Louisa, Va.) was hot on his heels in fifth, finishing in 51.75. Junior T.J. Pecina (Hayter's Gap, Va.) was 10th in 53.21 while his brother Cody Pecina (Hayter's Gap, Va.) was right behind him in 11th with a 53.45.
- Junior Gavin Kegler (Woodbridge, Va.) placed third in the 800 meters, finishing in 1:59.79. Senior Samuel Tindall (Fort Defiance, Va.) finished in 2:06.96 for fifth, while freshmen Brady Widlake (Bristow, Va.) and Lucas Hubble (Chilhowie, Va.) finished sixth and eighth respectively.
- Tindall was third in the mile as he ran a time of 4:29.26, just beating out junior Aidan Trautman (Centreville, Md.) who was fourth in 4:29.32. Widlake finished seventh in 4:46.92 while Hubble was eighth in 4:48.68.
- Senior Miles Baldwin (Floyd, Va.) was the winner in the 3000 meters as he put down a time of 9:01.17. Junior Davis Norman (Salem, Va.) took second in 9:12.49 while Trautman's 9:27.99 was good enough for fifth and senior Tommy Henzey, IV (Salem, Va.) was seventh with a 9:40.73.
- Freshman J.T. Moore (Chilhowie, Va.) finished second in the 5000 meters as he put down a time of 16:39.18.

Field
- Junior Joseph Ihlenburg (Roanoke, Va.) was second in the high jump as he posted a height of 1.83 meters.
- Junior Drew Craft (Covington, Va.) was second in the long jump with a leap of 6.96 meters, breaking his own program record. Ihlenburg was fourth with a 6.85 meters, while freshman TaiShaun Cooks (Forest, Va.) finished 14th with his distance of 6.36 meters.
- Freshman Brock Ayers (Austinville, Va.) placed sixth in the shot put with a toss of 13.32 meters. Fellow freshman Phillip Radford (Riner, Va.) posted a 12.92 meter throw to finish eighth, while sophomore Malik Guadelupe (Woodbridge, Va.) was ninth with his 12.45 meter toss.
- Craft took fifth in the triple jump, putting down a distance of 14.04 meters. Cooks took 15th with a jump of 12.82 meters.
- Senior Gavin Lee (North Tazewell, Va.) continued his dominance in the weight throw, taking home medalist honors with his distance of 17.66 meters. Guadelupe's 14.96 meter throw was good enough for third, while Ayers was seventh with a 13.88 meter toss.

Women's Top Performances

Track
- Sophomore Aiyana Blakey (Woodbridge, Va.) broke her own program record in the 60 meters, running a time of 8.14 to finish second.
- Sophomore Mia Spangler (Floyd, Va.) finished seventh in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing in 11.62.
- Freshman Alexandria Scott (Fredericksburg, Va.) was fourth in the 200 meters, putting down a time of 27.17, good enough to set another program record. Blakey finished fifth in 27.31, while junior Maya Turner (Midland, Va.) was eighth in 28.05.
- Sophomore Tess Somervell (Chilhowie, Va.) set another new program record in the 400 meters, winning the event with her time of 1:01.61. Scott was second in 1:02.97, Turner was third in 1:03.23 and junior McKenzie Tate (Wytheville, Va.) was fifth in 1:04.23.
- Junior Kennedy Harris (Mineral, Va.) took fourth in the 800 meters, finishing in 2:29.15.
- Harris was fourth in the mile with her time of 5:27.24, while senior Elise McKinney (Church Hill, Tenn.) was fifth in 5:48.04.
- McKinney placed second in the 3000 meters, posting a time of 11:44.49, while junior Hannah Rosen (Falls Church, Va.) was third in 13:27.15.
- Freshman Violet Riddle (Johnson City, Tenn.) was third in the 5000 meters, stopping the watch at 22:15.12. Fellow freshman Lilia Yanez (El Paso, Texas) finished fourth in 22:51.34.

Field
- Senior Alyssa Chappell (Church Hill, Tenn.) was second in the high jump, recording a height of 1.43 meters, while Spangler was third with a height of 1.38 meters.
-Chappell placed ninth in the long jump with her distance of 4.75 meters. Junior Adrianna Hall (Salem, Va.) finished in 13th with a distance of 4.23 meters.
- Somervell was the winner in the pole vault with her completed height of 2.45 meters, setting the new program standard.
- Senior Catie Leonard (Gray, Tenn.) was 11th in the shot put with a distance of 8.84 meters. Freshman Chloe Spence (Riner, Va.) finished 12th with her throw of 8.63 meters, while Spangler was 16th with a toss of 7.77 meters.
- Spence took 10th in the weight throw, recording a distance of 10.87 meters. Senior Taylorann Cash (Buena Vista, Va.) was 15th with a 9.87 meter toss, while Leonard finished in 17th with her distance of 9.51 meters.
