RECORDS - Emory & Henry (0-1); Frostburg State (1-0)
How It Happened
- Due to preseason injuries Emory & Henry found themselves already down one woman to begin play. Madison Hunt (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) put the Wasps in position to score early with a long run deep
into Frostburg territory, however the possession would stall. E&H's defense held for the opening minutes, but Frostburg would strike first finding the try zone for the 5-0 lead.
- The teams would trade the next few possessions with each team getting their chances in the other's territory to find pay dirt, with Emory & Henry getting as close as the 22-meter line. Frostburg
would eventually break through the Wasps defense and score 3 more tries before the halftime intermission to lead 24-0.
- Frostburg came out swinging to begin the second half of play getting into the try zone twice. Emory & Henry's defense stiffened, allowing their offense to work its way to 22-meter line, threatening again, but that would be as close as the Wasps would get.
- E&H won the possession battle while also committing 9 fewer penalties than the Bobcats. The Wasps achieved a perfect 6 for 6 on lineout retentions for the match, while the defense forced 4
turnovers.
- Freshman Novella Henry (Goldsboro, N.C.) was named the Emory & Henry Player of the Match. Novella made her presence known with several key runs to give the Wasps offense chances to score
and was instrumental on defense coming up with several key tackles to slow down the opposition.
