MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Emory & Henry University Men's Wrestling Team continued the open portion of its schedule Saturday afternoon as the Wasps competed in the Hawk Classic hosted by Huntingdon College. E&H saw six wrestlers compete over six separate weight classes. Sophomore Sebastian Gaberrete (Jeffersonton, Va.) led the way for Emory & Henry as he finished in fifth place at 174 pounds.

125 Pounds
- Senior Tito Hernandez (Shelbyville, Tenn.) received a bye in the opening championship round before being defeated by fall by Kentucky Wesleyan's Bryson Rowley in 2:47. He then was topped by a 16-0 technical fall by Daniel McEntyre of Montevallo.
133 Pounds
- Senior Avery Almany (Bristol, Tenn.) exited the tournament as he had to forfeit both of his bouts due to injury.
141 Pounds
- Junior Logan Arnold (Rocky Mount, Va.) advanced to the second championship round due to a bye, then earned a hard-fought 16-15 decision victory over Nick Portis of Andrew College. Arnold was then forced to forfeit his next two bouts due to injury.
149 Pounds
- Senior Isaiah Dotson (Jonesville, Va.) entered the second championship round due to a bye and took down Montreat College's Robert Branson by a narrow 7-6 decision. Dotson was then defeated by fall by Connor Stephens in 1:28 in the quarterfinal round. He then fell to Joaquin Tanabe of Keiser University by a 21-2 technical fall in the fourth consolation round.
157 Pounds
- Freshman Zane Perkins (Wytheville, Va.) picked up a big win in the second championship round after a bye in the first as he pinned Bryson McCraw of Montreat in 2:11. Perkins fell to Brandon Irigoyen of Lindsey Wilson College by a 19-4 technical fall scoreline in the quarterfinal round. He bounced back with a win by fall in 5:39 over William Borre in the fourth consolation round, before being defeated by an 11-0 major decision by Huntingdon's Crisjaniel Martinez-Antonetty.
174 Pounds
- Gaberrete began his day in the second championship round with a dominant 17-7 major decision victory over Shane Brakke of Keiser. He then dropped a 6-0 decision to Life University's Gio Jackson in the quarterfinal round, but responded with another big 27-12 technical fall win over Cale Johnson of Lindsey Wilson in the fourth consolation round. Gaberrete earned another win, this time by an 11-8 decision against Cole Sykes of Montevallo in the fifth consolation round. He was defeated by Brad Mahoney by fall in 1:33 in the consolation semifinals, but took home fifth place with a win by no contest over Huntingdon's David Burgess.

- Emory & Henry returns to action on Thursday, January 9 when the Wasps host Bluefield State University and Shorter University for a Conference Carolinas tri-match. First bout is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. from the John Rutledge King Center.
