Carson-Newman Women’s Basketball Defeats Emory & Henry, 91-63, In SAC Contest Wednesday

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Emory & Henry University Women's Basketball Team (6-19, 4-15 SAC) dropped its road South Atlantic Conference game to Carson-Newman University (17-8, 13-6 SAC) Wednesday evening. The Eagles eclipsed the 20-point mark in all four quarters on their way to the 91-63 victory.

How It Happened
- The Eagles jumped on the Wasps early, establishing a 14-6 advantage midway through the opening quarter. The C-N lead reached as many as 11, but E&H slowly chipped away and a jumper from graduate student forward Breanna Yarber (Meadowview, Va.) cut the deficit to just two at 17-15 with 2:14 left in the opening frame. A pair of free throws from freshman forward Hali Harris (Richmond, Va.) made it a one-point contest at 20-19 in favor of the home team through one quarter of action.
- The two teams went back-and-forth to start the second and a three by junior forward Gracyn Hall (Randleman, N.C.) brought the Wasps back within one at 28-17 at the 5:50 mark. Carson-Newman would go on a 9-0 run over the following three minutes to give themselves some breathing room, but the visitors from Emory battled back to pull within six at 40-34 at the halftime break.
- The Eagles' offense erupted to begin the third quarter, scoring the first 21 points of the stanza to balloon their margin out to 61-34 at the 5:15 mark. Carson-Newman continued to make buckets and held a 69-24 lead at the end of the third.
- Carson-Newman saw its lead reach 39 at 83-46 around the midpoint of the fourth quarter as C-N seemingly could not miss from the field. Freshman guard Julie Matheson (Boone, N.C.) was a bright spot for the Wasps in the fourth as she knocked down four jumpers from beyond the three-point arc, but it was not enough as the Eagles rolled to the 91-63 win.

Emory & Henry Leaders
- Junior guard Rhyan Harris (Salem, Va.) led the Wasps with a team-high 19 points, three assists, one rebound and a steal. Matheson finished with her 12 points and a blocked shot while Hali Harris collected nine points, four boards, two blocks, two assists and a steal.
- Sophomore guard Tori West (Richmond, Va.) had eight points, five rebounds and five assists. Yarber added eight points, two rebounds, one assist and a blocked shot.

Carson-Newman Individual Leaders
- Caroline Hill had a monster game as she went for a game-high 30 points, two rebounds, one assist and a steal. Mattie Nuckolls added 19 points, five rebounds, two assists and a pair of blocks.
- Delaney Weddington recorded 10 points, two rebounds and a steal while Karli Haworth had eight points, three steals and a pair of assists.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot 36.2% (25-for-69) from the field and 26.9% (7-for-26) from three-point range. The Wasps were 6-for-7 (85.7%) at the free throw line.
- Carson-Newman was 33-for-71 (46.5%) overall, while knocking down a scorching 56.5% (13-for-23) of their attempts from deep. The Eagles converted 92.3% (12-for-13) of their shots at the charity stripe.
- The Eagles held a massive 53-28 advantage on the glass and put up 11 second chance points compared to five for the Wasps.
- Emory & Henry forced 19 Carson-Newman turnovers, converting those into 14 points. C-N made E&H cough up the basketball on 15 occasions which they turned into 12 points.
- Carson-Newman held a 30-24 advantage on points scored in the painted area.
- The contest saw just two ties and no lead changes.

- Emory & Henry is on the road this Saturday, February 21 when the Wasps travel to face off against the Bulldogs of Wingate University. Tip is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. as game one of a doubleheader with the men's team.
