HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Emory & Henry University Women's Basketball Team (3-11, 1-7 SAC) controlled play for three quarters against the ninth-ranked team in the country, Coker University (13-1, 8-0 SAC) Saturday afternoon, but eventually ran out of gas on the road in South Atlantic Conference action. The Wasps held the lead for the majority of the contest, but the No. 9 Cobras stormed back in the fourth quarter to earn a 64-56 victory.

How It Happened
- The teams went back-and-forth to begin the contest and a layup by freshman forward Hali Harris (Richmond, Va.) gave the Wasps an 8-7 advantage with just over five minutes left in the opening quarter of action. Emory & Henry added to their margin over the second half of the frame, and another layup from Harris gave the visiting Wasps the 17-14 lead after the first 10 minutes of play.
- The Cobras opened the second quarter on the front foot, scoring six of the first eight points to jump ahead 20-19. E&H had an immediate answer with a 7-2 run of their own to establish a narrow four-point margin at 26-22. Coker managed to close the gap to just one, but junior forward Gracyn Hall (Randleman, N.C.) drained a three-point jump just before the buzzer to push the Emory & Henry lead back out to 30-26 at the half.
- A quick 7-0 spurt for the Wasps out of the break was capped off by a three pointer from redshirt freshman guard Dot Mills (Canton, N.C.) to give the visitors from Emory their largest advantage of the contest at 37-26 at the 6:26 mark of the third. The game of runs continued as the Cobras mounted a 13-4 rally of their own to pull back within two at 41-39. E&H managed to keep the Coker shooters at bay throughout the remainder of the stanza and held on to a slim 44-43 lead heading into the final quarter.
- It was all Cobras to begin the final frame as the home team rattled off the first 11 points to give themselves some breathing room for the first time, pushing the score out to 54-44. The Wasps would not go quietly as they battled back to pull within six at 58-52 with 29 ticks left on the clock. The No. 9 Cobras were a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe and added a layup by the SAC's leading scorer Shawnteanna Tillman to escape the upset-minded Wasps with the 64-56 win.
Emory & Henry Leaders
- Hali Harris led the Wasps with 14 points, three rebounds and an assist while Hall collected a double-double with 13 points, 11 rebounds, one assist and a steal. Junior guard Rhyan Harris (Salem, Va.) had a solid day with nine points, seven boards, four steals and a pair of assists.
- Mills finished with seven points, six assists, two rebounds, one blocked shot and a steal. Freshman guard Kinley Painter (Johnson City, Tenn.) added seven points, three rebounds, one assist and a steal off of the bench for E&H.
Coker Individual Leaders
- Tillman led all scorers with 26 points, eight assists, five rebounds and a pair of steals. Janay Legagneur went for 16 points and eight rebounds.
- Kristynn Knight chipped in with eight points, seven rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals while Kadence Walker-Lee had six points and six rebounds in the win for the Cobras.
A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot 41.1% (23-for-56) overall from the field and finished 6-for-20 (30.0%) from beyond the three-point arc. The Wasps were a paltry 4-for-10 (40.0%) at the free throw line.
- The No. 9 Cobras were held to just 33.8% (22-for-65), their second-lowest field goal percentage of the season, on all field goals and were just 6-for-30 (20.0%) from distance. Coker shot 87.5% (14-for-16) at the charity stripe.
- Coker outrebounded E&H 48-32 on the glass, including holding a big 22-11 advantage on offensive boards.
- The Cobras utilized their extra opportunities with the basketball, outscoring the Wasps 25-8 on second chance points.
- Emory & Henry was the aggressor in the painted area, tallying 32 points compared to 22 for the nationally-ranked Cobras.
- The Cobras and the Wasps both struggled with turnovers, committing 19 and 21 respectively.
