Emory & Henry Women’s Basketball Falls To Carson-Newman In SAC Play Wednesday

EMORY, Va. – The Carson-Newman University Women's Basketball Team (10-3, 6-1 SAC) came into the John Rutledge King Center and defeated homestanding Emory & Henry University (3-10, 1-6 SAC) in South Atlantic Conference action Wednesday evening. The Lady Eagles put up 57 first-half points on their way to a 105-63 win.

How It Happened
- It seemed as if Carson-Newman could not miss to begin the game as the visitors from Jefferson City ran out to an early 11-2 margin. C-N continued to push the tempo and a three from Carolina Hill increased their lead out to 24-8 with just over two minutes to play in the opening quarter. Carson-Newman shot 66.7% (14-for-21), including knocking down eight threes to make it 36-17 at the end of the first.
- The teams went back-and-forth to start the second and the score held at 45-26 at the halfway point. The Lady Eagles drained a pair of jumpers from distance just before the halftime break to earn the 57-35 lead.
- A quick 7-0 run from the Wasps over the first 2:12 of the third quarter trimmed the deficit to 15 at 57-42. Carson-Newman righted the ship over the following two minutes and change, utilizing a 10-3 run to push their advantage back out to 67-45. The Lady Eagles finished the quarter with a flourish as Karli Haworth drilled a pair of long-range jumpers to balloon the visitors' lead past the 30-point mark at 83-51 at the end of three periods.
- It was more of the same in the fourth quarter as the Carson-Newman reserves put up 22 points, led by Kali McMahan's 10, as they cruised to the 105-63 victory.

Emory & Henry Leaders
- Junior guard Rhyan Harris (Salem, Va.) paced the Wasps with a team-high 12 points, four rebounds, three assists and a steal. Freshman forward Hali Harris (Richmond, Va.) finished with 11 points, four rebounds and a blocked shot.
- Freshman guard Kinley Painter (Johnson City, Tenn.) posted 11 points, three helpers, two steals, one block and a rebound while fellow freshman guard Julie Matheson (Boone, N.C.) added a career-high nine points, two assists and a rebound. 

Carson-Newman Individual Leaders
- Haworth registered 16 points, four assists and a rebound while Hill went for 16 points, six assists, five rebounds and a pair of steals off of the bench.
- Mattie Nuckolls collected 14 points, four assists, one block and a rebound for the Lady Eagles. Jennifer Sullivan posted 12 points, four boards, three assists and a steal in the win.  

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry was 33.3 percent (19-for-57) from the field, hitting six three-pointers (24.0%). The Wasps went 19-for-25 (76.0%) at the free throw line.
- Carson-Newman shot 40-of-78 (51.3%) overall and was 14-for-38 (36.8%) from deep. The Lady Eagles converted 73.3 percent (11-of-15) of their free throws.
- C-N outrebounded E&H 50-29, and held a 20-4 advantage on second chance points.
- Carson-Newman won the turnover battle, forcing 19 Wasp miscues compared to committing 15. The visitors capitalized on the miscues for 21 points off turnovers, while the Wasps had 10.
- C-N forced the ball inside as they outscored the Wasps by a 40-22 margin in the paint.
