EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry University Women's Basketball Team (3-3) picked up its second consecutive win on Wednesday, defeating the University of Mount Olive (2-3) in non-conference play. The Wasps ran out to a 12-point halftime advantage, then utilized a 32-point third quarter to roll to the 92-55 victory. Graduate student forward Breanna Yarber (Meadowview, Va.) put up a game-high 32 points to increase her career total to 1285, tying her for third all-time in program history. The 92 points scored by the Wasps are their most in a contest since defeating Tusculum 93-82 during the 2023-24 season.

How It Happened
- Both teams struggled to score early in the contest and the Wasps held on to a 7-3 advantage at the first media break. E&H pushed its lead out to 14-7 at the 2:14 mark, but the Trojans rallied with six straight points to close the gap to just one at 14-13. A three-point jumper from sophomore guard Lyndie Ramsey (Elizabethton, Tenn.) and a bucket by junior forward Paige Niethammer (Parrottsville, Tenn.) gave the Wasps the 19-13 margin after one.
- The teams traded buckets to begin the second frame and the score stood at 28-22 in favor of the home team after three minutes. Emory & Henry would finish the half outscoring the visiting Trojans by a 12-6 tally to take the 12-point lead into the locker room.
- The Wasps came out of the half firing on all cylinders as they went on a 27-4 run in the opening five and a half minutes of the third quarter, including 11 points from Yarber, to blow things open at 67-32. When the dust settled, the hometown Wasps held a 72-42 lead heading into the final quarter.
- Emory & Henry did not slow down in the final quarter, continuing to put their foot on the gas pedal on their way to outscoring UMO 20-13. The Wasp reserves took advantage of their opportunities, as freshman guard Julie Matheson (Boone, N.C.), junior guard Reagan Chapman (Rosman, N.C.) and freshman guard Journi Grice (Durham, N.C.) all drained shots from long distance to help propel E&H to the 92-55 non-conference victory.
Emory & Henry Leaders
- Yarber finished with 32 points, six rebounds, four blocks, two steals and an assist. Ramsey posted a double-double with 12 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and a block while Niethammer had eight points, seven rebounds, four blocks, two assists and a pair of steals.
- Redshirt freshman guard Dot Mills (Canton, N.C.) registered eight points, a career-high 11 assists, four rebounds and a pair of steals. Junior guard Rhyan Harris (Salem, Va.) collected 11 points, six rebounds, one steal, one assist and a blocked shot in the win.
Mount Olive Individual Leaders
- Jada Priebe was the top scorer for UMO as she went for 13 points, four rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot. Savannah McAfee added 10 points, six boards, three steals and a block.
- Jerin Truesdale contributed 10 points, five rebounds, two assists and a steal while Kayla Jackson recorded six points, two boards and a helper.
A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot 54.7 percent (35-for-64) from the field, hitting a season-high 13 three-pointers (44.8%). The Wasps went 9-for-13 (69.2%) at the free throw line.
- Mount Olive made just 22-of-74 (29.7%) of their shots and was 5-for-19 (26.3%) from long range. The Trojans converted 75.0 percent (6-of-8) of their free throws.
- E&H held a massive 51-35 rebounding advantage, and outscored the Trojans 18-8 on second-chance points.
- UMO won the turnover battle, forcing 18 compared to committing 15, but the Wasps took advantage of every Trojan mistake as they tallied 26 points off of turnovers to just 14 for Mount Olive.
- Emory & Henry forced the ball inside as they recorded 36 points in the painted area while the Trojans managed 26.
