GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Emory & Henry University Softball Team (2-4, 0-0 SAC) fell in both games on the first day of the Brianna Surrento Kickoff Classic. The Wasps look to right the ship tomorrow against Middle Georgia and Young Harris.  

The Basics
GAME ONE – Emory & Henry 1, Southern Wesleyan, 9 (five innings)
GAME TWO – Emory & Henry 3, Lander 4
LOCATION – Greenwood, South Carolina

RECORDS – Emory & Henry (2-4, 0-0 SAC); Southern Wesleyan (2-4, 0-0 CC); Lander (4-1, 0-0 PBC)

Game One – Emory & Henry 1, Southern Wesleyan 9
Southern Wesleyan got off to a hot start on the base paths, scoring 4 runs on 3 hits in the top of the 1st inning. SWU was held in check in the 2nd inning, but the Wasps failed to string anything together in their half of the inning and the score stood at 4-0.  The Warriors added to their advantage in the 3rd with a 2 run home run. Rachel Hill (Stanardsville, Va.) was the lone bright spot for E&H, she belted a solo shot in the bottom of the 4th for the only run the Wasps could send across. SWU pushed three more runs across in the 5th to take the game by run rule 9-1. 

Game Two – Emory & Henry 3, Lander 4
The Wasps wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in game 2. Abigail Street (Glade Spring, Va.) and Rachel Hill both reached on singles, setting the stage for Hannah Booth (Longwood, Fla.) to hit a 3 run bomb over the centerfield fence, giving E&H the early 3-0 lead. Lander responded with one run in their half of the 1st inning. After scoring 4 runs between the teams in the 1st inning both pitchers settled in, not allowing anymore offense until the bottom of the 5th. Junior Destiny Good (Staunton, Va.) finished the day with 5 innings pitched, allowing 3 earned runs (4 total) and striking out 3 batters as well. Her counterpart, Paige Sherman, gave up 2 earned runs (3 total) and struck out 3 batters. 

Lander would level the game at 3 in the bottom of the 5th with a single to right center, and would take the lead 4-3 in the bottom of the 6th off a single run homerun. E&H weren't able to break through in the top of the 7th falling to Lander by a 4-3 final score.

Day two of the Brinna Surrento Kickoff Classic will be tomorrow February 14th, Emory & Henry will play Middle Georgia at 10AM followed by Young Harris at 12:00PM.
