Emory & Henry Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Finishes Third And Sets Two Program Bests At John Weaver Invitational

BOONE, N.C. – The Emory & Henry University Outdoor Track & Field Team wrapped up the regular season at the John Weaver Invitational hosted by Appalachian State University Friday and Saturday. The men's team placed third and set a pair of program records, while the women's team also finished in third and set five new program bests.

Top Men's Performances

Track
- Junior Davis Norman (Salem, Va.) finished second in the 5000 meters as he put down a time of 16:11.61. Fellow junior Aidan Trautman (Centreville, Md.) took third with his time of 16:15.53, while freshman J.T. Moore (Chilhowie, Va.) was fifth in 16:49.12.
- Junior Joshua Black (Woodbridge, Va.) took fourth in the 110-meter hurdles, finishing in 14.95 to break his own program record.
- Black then was the medalist in the 200 meters as he finished in 22.43.
- Junior T.J. Pecina (Hayter's Gap, Va.) was ninth in the 400 meters with a time of 50.37, while senior Aaron Wilson (Chester, Va.) was 10th with a 50.61.
- The Wasps dominated the 800 meters as sophomore Hayden Pugh (Louisa, Va.) was the winner in 1:55.70, junior Cody Pecina (Hayter's Gap, Va.) finished second in 1:57.55, senior Samuel Tindall (Fort Defiance, Va.) placed fourth in 1:58.11 and junior Gavin Kegler (Woodbridge, Va.) was fifth in 1:58.27.
- Senior Miles Baldwin (Floyd, Va.) took home fifth in the mile as he finished in 4:29.45.
- The 4x400 meter relay team of Pecina, Pecina, Pugh and Wilson took third in 3:25.15.

Field
- Sophomore Malik Guadelupe (Woodbridge, Va.) placed seventh in the discus throw with his toss of 39.45 meters while freshman Phillip Radford (Riner, Va.) was ninth with a 38.52 meter throw.
- Senior Gavin Lee (North Tazewell, Va.) finished second in the hammer throw as he recorded a distance of 56.31 meters. Guadelupe was fourth with his 51.57 meter toss.
- Junior Drew Craft (Covington, Va.) was second in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.91 meters to set a new program record.
- Freshman Carson Stanley (Wytheville, Va.) placed fifth in the javelin throw as he registered a distance of 44.82 meters. Craft was sixth with his throw of 40.55 meters.
- Craft took sixth in the long jump with his distance of 6.56 meters, while freshman TaiShaun Cooks (Forest, Va.) was seventh with a 6.43 meter leap.
- Freshman Brock Ayers (Austinville, Va.) was sixth in the shot put with a 14.50 meter throw while Guadelupe was ninth with his toss of 13.45 meters.

Women's Top Performances

Track
- Junior Maya Turner (Midland, Va.) placed third in the 200 meters as she finished in 28.05.
- Turner then finished 14th in the 400 meters with a 1:01.07, while freshman Alexandria Scott (Fredericksburg, Va.) was 19th in 1:03.81.
- Sophomore Tess Somervell (Chilhowie, Va.) took home second place in the 800 meters, finishing in 2:24.01, just ahead of junior McKenzie Tate (Wytheville, Va.) in third with her time of 2:24.40.
- Senior Elise McKinney (Church Hill, Tenn.) finished third in the mile in 5:43.49.
- Freshman Violet Riddle (Johnson City, Tenn.) was eighth in the 5000 meters in 22:38.89 while fellow freshman Lilia Yanez (El Paso, Texas) placed 11th in 23:25.32.
- The 4x400 meter relay team of Somervell, Tate, Scott and junior Rhyan Harris (Salem, Va.) were the winners with a time of 4:18.50.

Field
- Senior Taylorann Cash (Buena Vista, Va.) was fourth in the discus throw as she registered a throw of 37.33 meters to set a new program record. Freshman Chloe Spence (Riner, Va.) was sixth with her distance of 37.00 meters.
- Cash then took fourth in the hammer throw with a toss of 36.37 meters, setting her second program record of the day. Fellow senior Catie Leonard (Gray, Tenn.) was fifth with a 35.94 meter throw. Spence finished seventh with her throw of 32.61 meters.
- Sophomore Mia Spangler (Floyd, Va.) placed seven in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.45 meters.
- Harris took the win in the javelin throw, launching a throw of 33.94 meters to break her own program record. Turner was seventh with a distance of 23.29 meters.
- Spangler was fourth in the long jump with a leap of 5.33 meters, breaking her own program record.
- Cash wrapped up her day with a 10th-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 11.05 meters, smashing her own program best.

- Emory & Henry is back in action on Wednesday, April 29 for day one of the South Atlantic Conference Outdoor Championships from the Food City Sports Complex in Emory.
