How It Happened
- The Lions struck first just 38 seconds into the contest, but E&H answered back less than a minute later on an unassisted goal by sophomore midfielder David Mewes (Greenville, S.C.) to tie things at 1-1. Emmanuel retook the lead briefly, but freshman attack Dany Nguyen (Forest, Va.) found the back of the net to make it 2-2. The Lions settled in over the remainder of the half, scoring nine unanswered to take an 11-2 advantage into the half.
- The Wasps' offense came to life in the third quarter as Nguyen tallied his second of the night at the 13:09 mark to bring them back to 11-3. After an Emmanuel goal, E&H recorded three consecutive scores as sophomore midfielder Gabe Carter (Kingsport, Tenn.), freshman attack Jackson Jones (Salem, Va.) and Nguyen managed to close the gap to six at 12-6. The Lions would put up the final two goals of the quarter to make it 14-6 through three periods of action.
- Emmanuel would break through first in the fourth, but E&H once more had a response as Nguyen registered his fourth goal of the evening and Carter followed suit on an assist from junior attack Jacob Mills (Culpeper, Va.) to pull the Wasps back into the competition at 15-8. Emmanuel had an answer for the Wasp run however, putting up four straight to give themselves a comfortable 19-8 margin. Emory & Henry still had some fight left as freshman defender Brayden Hall (Salem, Va.) scored his first collegiate goal and Carter completed his hat trick, but it was too little too late as Emmanuel took the 20-10 victory.
