EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Cheerleading & Dance Teams have announced their competition schedule. The teams have supported the football and men's & women's basketball teams since September, but now turn their attention to their season. Both teams will see action in two different competitions, one in March and another in April. Led by Head Coach Mary Hannah Garber, the Wasps look to continue the success seen last year on the competition floor.
"Our teams have grown so much this year not only in skills but also as a family," commented Garber. "I believe with the determination, drive, and talent that they possess, we will succeed tremendously at competition. We have big plans for the future of this program and this is where it all begins! We have been working all year on developing new skills as well as reviewing old skills to make sure we have a solid foundation. I always tell my teams, 'It's not impressive if you perform a mediocre advanced skill, it's impressive if you do a polished less-challenging skill,' and that is our motto for the year."
Emory & Henry will open the year at Champion Cheer & Dance's March Madness Championship on Saturday, March 30 in Greensboro, North Carolina. The event will be held on the campus of North Carolina A&T State University.
The Wasps will make a return trip to JAMfest Sevierville Nationals on the weekend of Saturday, April 13-Sunday, April 14. The Sevierville Convention Center will again serve as the host site where the dance team claimed a "National Champion" first-place finish last spring.
"The Cheer and Dance Teams will both be performing at each competition this spring. This gives them a chance to support each other and that is truly what I love about this program," Garber added. "All of my athletes work as a team, no matter what. Now, we're ready to leave it all on the floor. Go Wasps!"
