How It Happened
Neither team could break through in the first two innings, but the Panthers were first on the scoreboard in the top of the third. Ferrum strung together five runs on six hits to take a 5-0 lead. Emory & Henry got a run back in the bottom of the third. Junior second baseman Ryan Paynton (Walnut Creek, Calif.) singled and advanced to second on a base hit from junior outfielder Jadden Rodriguez (Thomasville, N.C.). Junior first baseman Kyle Fields (Lynchburg, Va.) plated Paynton with an RBI single to cut the deficit to 5-1 through the first three innings.

Ferrum exploded for 10 runs on six hits, three walks and a pair of hit batsmen in the top of the fourth to create plenty of breathing room at 15-1. The Panthers would add another run in the top of the fifth, but the Wasps scored twice in the home half of the frame. Rodriguez was hit by a pitch, Fields doubled and senior catcher Ky Gregoire (Waterloo, Ontario, CANADA) brought them both home with a two-RBI double to reduce the deficit to 16-3. The Wasps put up two more in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single from freshman outfielder Jase Kotwicki (Harrisburg, N.C.) and a bases-loaded walk from Fields to run the score to 16-5. FC would go on to add six more runs in the top of the seventh and E&H scored once in the bottom of the inning to send the score to its final at 22-6.
