Carson-Newman Volleyball Sweeps Emory & Henry, 3-0, In SAC Play Friday

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman University Volleyball Team (16-6, 12-2 SAC) downed Emory & Henry University (4-18, 1-12 SAC) in South Atlantic Conference action Friday night. The Eagles topped the Wasps by set scores of 25-16, 25-16 and 25-21.

How It Happened
- The Eagles began the match on a hot streak as they took an early 11-4 lead through the opening stages of the set. Carson-Newman continued to increase their advantage over the middle of the frame as the score stood at 18-10 in favor of the home team. E&H managed to close the gap to six on multiple occasions, but the Eagles closed out the set 25-16 to jump ahead 1-0 in the match.
- Carson-Newman again took the initiative to begin the second frame as they ran out to a 15-8 lead at the midpoint. The Eagles pushed the margin out to as many as 10 on their way to winning the set by another 25-16 scoreline.
- The two squads went back-and-forth to start the third set as they were tied on six separate occasions in the first 20 points of the stanza and the score stood level at 10-10. The Eagles gave themselves some breathing room over the middle of the set and held a 20-16 lead heading into the deciding points. The Wasps closed to within a pair at 21-19, but Carson-Newman sealed the victory by taking four of the final six points to win the set 25-21 and the match by a 3-0 final.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
-  Junior middle Gracyn Miller (Lilburn, Ga.) led the way for the Wasps with seven kills, five blocks, three digs, two service aces and an assist. Fifth-year outside hitter Brianna Hogan (Front Royal, Va.) added six kills, nine digs, three blocks and an assist while fifth-year middle Hannah Watson (Kingsport, Tenn.) finished with four kills, six blocks and a pair of digs.
- Fifth-year libero Libby Bickelhaupt (Fort Myers, Fla.) had a team-high 11 digs and an assist while freshman setter Zoie Pace (Collinsville, Va.) chipped in with a team-high 14 assists and seven digs. Junior setter Logan Newberry (Glade Spring, Va.) tallied 13 assists and four digs.

Carson-Newman Individual Leaders
- Taylor Adams paced the Eagles with 12 kills and a dig while Maddie Hurst added 11 kills and a block. Taylor Keeran registered eight kills, two blocks, one dig, one assist and a service ace. Kylee Oldenburger recorded nine kills, two blocks and a dig.
- Blair Cherry posted a double-double with a match-high 35 assists, 18 digs, four kills, two blocks and a service ace. Bennett McCombs finished with a match-high 26 digs and seven assists.
