SALEM, Va. – Coming off of its first Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championship in program history, the Emory & Henry College Men's Basketball Team has been tabbed to finish fifth in the league this season, ODAC officials announced Thursday. The release came as part of the league's annual media day held on the site of the Salem Civic Center. The poll is voted on by the 13 head coaches in the league.
Last year, the Wasps opened the year 10-0 and went on to hold an 18-1 record after winning their first 10 league games. E&H was ranked as high as No. 19 in NCAA Division III by D3hoops.com. By virtue of their 72-70 win over Roanoke College in the ODAC Tournament Championship game, Emory & Henry reached the NCAA Division III Tournament for the first time in 25 years.
The Wasps also notched their third-straight winning season for the first time since an eight-year span between 1985-86 and 1992-93 under the direction of Hall of Fame Head Coach Bob Johnson.
Roanoke, last year's league runner-up, is picked to take the title with seven first-place votes and 137 points. Randolph-Macon College and Guilford College are second and third, respectively, evenly splitting the final six top picks. Virginia Wesleyan University sits in fourth just one point ahead of Emory & Henry.
E&H will get the 2018-19 season started on Friday, November 9 when it hosts Thomas More University at 6:00 p.m. The Wasps' first ODAC game will be on Sunday, November 25 at home against Shenandoah University (3:00 p.m.).
