The Emory & Henry swim team has enjoyed competing at several off-campus venues during the last few seasons, but now the young program is ready to bring its act home to a newly updated facility.
Emory & Henry’s swimming pool has been equipped with diving blocks, lane ropes and a scoreboard as it prepares for competitive swim meets at home for the first time ever beginning this fall. Also new to the facility is a timing system with touch pads as well as posts and flags for guiding backstroke swimmers.
“It is great to see this excellent pool facility become used for competitive swimming,” said Jessica Hurd, head women’s swim coach. “This will serve as a great way to showcase our athletic facilities as well as our talented swimmers.”
The E&H swimming pool is located in the King Center Gymnasium. The pool includes large shower facilities and wide areas surrounding the rim of the pool, part of which will be used for bleachers.
The pool surface is covered frequently with natural light, which streams in from large, floor-to-ceiling glass doors that can be opened to an outdoor seating area.
“There’s a lot of excitement about the E&H swim team and the fact that we will be hosting matches here,” Hurd said. “The E&H community and our swimmers take great pride in this facility.”
