Emory & Henry College has hired Steven Kenner as head coach of the E&H women’s basketball team.

Kenner previously served as a women’s basketball graduate assistant and scouting director at the University of North Carolina Pembroke. His duties there included scouting, recruitment, bench duties and the development of post players.

Kenner replaces Joy Scruggs, who retired from coaching to pursue full-time teaching within the College’s Physical Education Department.

In addition to his working at UNC Pembroke, Kenner served as assistant men’s basketball coach for the University of South Carolina-Upstate and was varsity associate head coach at Oconee County High School in Watkinsville, Ga.

Kenner said he will stress the importance of academics and community involvement as he motivates his athletes to excel.  “The players know that I place a high premium on being good student-athletes,” he said.

The new head coach holds a master of arts in physical education from UNC Pembroke and a bachelor of science degree in technological studies in education from the University of Georgia.
