E&H Women's Athletics: Teamwork & Responsibility
Women's athletics at Emory & Henry reinforces a two-pronged approach to athletic success: teamwork and individual responsibility. Even in the more individualized sports – cross country and tennis – teamwork is highly emphasized while all athletes are encouraged to embrace the responsibility that they as individuals. As a result, E&H student athletes – in both men's and women's sports – compete with the understanding that the chances of success are optimized when individual athletes give their best as individuals and work together as a team.
The result has been some of the most successful women's basketball, softball, tennis and volleyball teams in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The strong emphasis on team has helped young women’s cross country, soccer and swimming teams continue strengthening with each season. Such experienced coaches such as basketball coach Joy Scruggs, who has three times won ODAC Coach of the Year honors, have been praised for the maturity, sportsmanship and talents of her athletes.
