Wasps Top VWC in 3

EMORY, Va. (Oct. 24, 2009) -- The Emory & Henry volleyball team claimed its 17th win with a 3-0 conference victory over Virginia Wesleyan Saturday.

The win followed a close loss to conference-leading Randolph-Macon the previous day. As they move toward the conference tournament, the Wasps are increasingly looking to be tough contenders.

Against VWC, Emory & Henry swept in three close sets (25-21, 25-22, 25-23) against a dangerous ODAC team.

Twyla Sessor added 18 digs for the Wasps, while Rachel Fertitta added 16 kills and six blocks. While helping their team to victory, Kim Caudill provided six blocks and five kills, Samantha Shepard put in for eight kills, Erin Holben recorded 16 digs and Reagan Clarke provided 37 assists.

The Emory & Henry volleyball team came close to taking down Randolph-Macon Friday, but failed to regroup after a tough loss in the second set.

The Wasps surprised the Yellow Jackets with a first-set win, 28-26. They continued to challenge in the second set but fell in a tough 23-25 decision. The Yellow Jackets continued their momentum into the third set, which they took 25-17.

Emory & Henry sought to rebound in the fourth set but lost 25-21 for a final 3-1 score in favor of Randolph-Macon. With the loss, Emory & Henry moves to 16-5 overall and 4-4 in the conference.

Feritta led her team in kills with 19. Shepard added 12 while Caudill contributed nine.

Sessor provided 25 digs while Holben put in for 16. Clarke added 37 assists.

Friday's match was senior night, during which Emory & Henry honored three seniors -- Sessor, Shepard and Clarke.
