Volleyball Team Upsets W&L

EMORY, Va. -- The Emory & Henry volleyball team upset the powerhouse team of Washington & Lee in volleyball action Tuesday, edging past the Generals in five very close sets.

The Wasps, now 12-3 on the season, boosted their hopes for a conference title by defeating the team that was picked in pre-season polls to finish first.  Emory & Henry won 3-2 (25-18, 26-24, 26-28, 26-28, 16-14) and handed the Generals only their third ODAC regular season loss in their last 86 matches.

The final game kept fans on the edge of their seats as the lead was tossed between the two teams, until sophomore Rachel Fertitta sealed the deal for the Wasps with a dominating spike.

Fertitta led the E&H team with 23 kills and seven blocks. Erin Holben added 16 kills while Kim Caudill pitched in with 14.

Twyla Sessor led in digs with 30, followed by Salena Trichel with 15 and Samantha Lucado with 12.

Reagan Clarke put up 61 assists and Samantha Shepard added six blocks.

Emory & Henry will travel to Bridgewater Saturday for another conference match. Play begins at 3 p.m.
