Men Win Ferrum Tennis Tournament

FERRUM, Va. (Sept. 28) -- The Emory & Henry men's tennis team dominated both singles and doubles competition in a round-robin tennis tournament sponsored by Ferrum College Sunday.

Emory & Henry won in all six flights of singles and all three flights of doubles in the tournament that also featured players from Ferrum and Lynchburg colleges.

Chip Wintringham led the Wasps with a victory at No. 1. Matt Nelson won at No. 2; Mike Rogers, No. 3; Ethan Brooks, No. 4; Hunter Romano, No. 5; and Zach Eccher, No. 6. Wintringham and Nelson won at No. 1 doubles while Rogers and Romano won at No. 2 and Brooks and Webster Gilley teamed up for a victory at No. 3.

Emory & Henry scored a total of 36 team points, while Lynchburg and Ferrum each scored 18.

Head Coach Jim Barker praised the E&H team while acknowledging the success of several first-year athletes in the tournament. "We are developing an extremely talented team that is capable of producing great results," he said.
