Jim Barker

Coach Jim Barker began working with the Emory & Henry men’s tennis team in 1997 and this year took over head coaching responsibilities for the E&H women’s tennis team. Barker is a participating tournament player with the United States Tennis Association and a long-standing member of the Untied States Professional Tennis Association.

Before moving to Virginia, he lived in Florida where he trained with international tennis coach Hank Jungle. He played sectional tournaments, achieving a sectional ranking, and participated in exhibition matches against Jimmy Connors, John Lloyd, Johan Krieg, and Tim and Tom Gullickson.

While coaching at Emory & Henry, he developed a tennis program at a nearby country club that has produced seven district high school champions and four regional championships in the last seven years. He is a USTA certified chair umpire and umpires Division I tennis matches. He is also a member of the United States Racquet Stringers Association, which provides instruction on maximizing racquet performance through string modification.
