EMORY, Va. (Feb. 6, 2009) -- Terrence Grigg hit a game-winning two-pointer Saturday to give the Emory & Henry men’s basketball team its first conference win of the season.
The 71-69 home victory over the Hampden-Sydney Tigers provided the E&H team with a rare celebration in a season that has so far been defined by defeat. Grigg hit the winning basket in the final four seconds of the game, giving him a total of 17 points on the night to addd to his team high of nine rebounds.
JD Dyson led the team in scoring with 21 points while Bobby Stafford led with seven assists. Josh Cunningham scored nine points while Malcolm Green came off the bench for the Wasps during the second half to score eight key points.
The win followed a disappointing 58-77 loss for the Wasps earlier in the week to the Generals of Washington and Lee University. Dyson had 19 points during that game, leading all E&H scorers.
Stafford had a double-double for the night with ten points and 13 rebounds. Jacob Teague had seven rebounds for the Wasps.
The Wasps, now 3-18 overall and 1-11 in the ODAC, play Virginia Wesleyan Monday at 4 p.m
