Hall of Fame: Excellence at its Best

The Emory & Henry Alumni Association
established the Sports Hall of Fame Oct. 9, 1971, to honor individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the college athletic program. These individuals include athletes, coaches, managers, sportswriters, team physicians and other interested individuals. A committee coordinated by the Alumni Office annually accepts nominations and selects inductees.

Inductees for 2009 (pictured left) include, from left, Casey Johnson for Robert J. Johnson, former head men's basketball coach and athletic director; Derek Elmore, Class of 1994, basketball; Jamie Harless, Class of 1998, football; Jewel Alvin Rhea, Class of 1969, football; and Myra Hudson Baumgardner, Class of 1973, volleyball and basketball

Nearly 200 people have been inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame. Emory & Henry's tradition of athletic excellence ensures that the roster of honorees in the Hall of Fame will continue to grow for years to come. And because of that tradition, competition for recognition in the Hall of Fame will surely be as great as the competition that spurred its creation.
