E&H Upsets W&L in Baseball

EMORY, Va. (April 16, 2009) -- The Emory & Henry baseball team scored an upset over conference rival Washinton and Lee University Thursday in the second game of a double header.

After losing the first game 1-4, the Wasps snapped back in a high-scoring second game and found themselves on top 14-13 by game's end.

In the second game, the Wasps were down four runs (9-13) in the bottom of the ninth before putting up the five runs to win. Emory & Henry won the game on Anthony Lowry's two-run walk-off home run. Lowry was 3-for-6 with five RBIs and three runs scored.

Reliever Will Schulhof claimed his first career win while Jared Pierce and Codie Mitchell each had three runs. Keith Fenner and Josh Rigney each had two RBIs, and Josh Nelson and Lee VanLear each had two hits and one RBI.

In game one, Marc Ailstock scored Emory & Henry's one run in the bottom of the sixth inning off a single by Josh Sickles. Ailstock, Nelson and Garrett Price each had two hits.

The Wasps travel to Virginia Beach Saturday to play Virginia Wesleyan. The game begins at noon.

In the second game, the Generals entered the ninth inning trailing, 9-8, and managed to take a 13-9 lead before the Wasps responded with five runs in the bottom half to eke out the 14-13 win.
