Trey McCall begins his 5th season as head coach for the Wasps.  Under McCall’s leadership the Wasps have made huge strides with the program.  The team has grown in size and has made improvements in all areas.  McCall has seen several of his players be named to the All Conference team including Anthony Lowry for the past 2 seasons.  McCall is a former Abingdon High School standout in 3 sports, but excelled on the baseball diamond.  He was drafted #16 overall in the 1st round of the 1985 MLB Draft by the Philadelphia Phillies where he then played catcher for the organization for 4 years.  McCall later returned to Emory & Henry where he received his B.A. in Business.  After a 7 year stint as Abingdon High School baseball coach where his teams saw tremendous success McCall came back to Emory to help build a program that he has always wanted.  During his time at Emory he has managed to get his Masters Degree in Physical Education from East Tennessee State University.  He is married to Laura Sykes, also an Emory & Henry grad and the two reside in Abingdon, VA with their two daughters Katherine and Elizabeth.

In 2003, the Wasps chalked up impressive wins against top teams. Also, second baseman Tommy Forrester earned Verizon First Team Academic All-South District honors. The team has spawned several successful graduates. Among them are outfielder Keith Maiden who played minor league ball for a season and All-American catcher Jared Beck who graduated with the fourth highest career slugging percentage in NCAA Division III history.

2000 graduate Brandon Matheny, who led the nation in strikeouts during two of his years at Emory & Henry, was drafted by the Cleveland Indians organization and made it as high as AAA ball.
